Whats Your Favorite Subject? - College Essay Sample

What's Your Favorite Subject? - College Essay SampleThe question, 'What's your favorite subject?' is the most frequent question asked in my college students' essay samples. That question forces me to worry about what they are really studying. Not, that they will not study subjects, but that they will not look at other subjects closely enough.Main topics, in most subjects, are the most common questions asked in courses. They are also the questions that students often ask when they come to me for help. Here is the deal: when a student asks me about the main topics in her essay, I immediately know that she is taking about them because of how frequently they come up in her discussion. And this fact alone is a guarantee that they are going to be more heavily weighted in her essay than the less frequently used subjects.Main topics can take on multiple meanings and agendas. For some students, main topics mean important (including being top-of-mind) or important to the point at hand. Other s tudents think of main topics as simply something that must be addressed to move the story along. It is important to pay attention to your main topics because it is likely that they will decide your main theme in your essay. Your title should be a sub-point in the main topic. Your title is probably the biggest element of your essay. If you do not pay attention to it, you might get stuck with a sub-point that does not mesh with the main topic. To be effective with your main topic, consider this fact. Each main topic must have a sub-point of its own. Then, each sub-point must be related to one of the main topics. For example, if your main topic is love, you must have a sub-point of forgiveness.Your main topic should provide enough information to support all the sub-points. For instance, if you asked, 'What is the best thing in the world?' it is quite clear to me that you want to include the topic of happiness. But you also want to include topics such as love, friendship, healing, work, a nd other positive themes that make us happy. In a nutshell, the key to getting students to pay attention to their main topic is not going to be helping them out much. In my experience, the main topic must be focused, specific, and specific to the theme of the entire paper. Students are excited to write papers and are often not paying attention to why. Their main topic is the reason for their excitement.Make sure your main topic is actually focused and specific. Students will pay attention to your paper and what you are trying to say in a very short period of time.

What Is A Freedom Of Speech - Free Essay Example

What is the true and meaningful meaning to freedom? The word freedom is defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint ,but if that is the meaning of freedom why are many punished and held against their will because they expressed their actions in the way of their beliefs . If it came down to me to decide I would say there is no real meaning to freedom and we dont live in a free world , or country as the president would say and here are my reasons why. The freedom of speech was recognized in The First Amendment in of the United States Constitution in 1791, as long with the freedom of religion, press and the right to assemble. A lot of times when freedom of speech is used many are incarcerated for speaking up for what they believed in. Such as, In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested and sent to jail because he and others were protesting in , Alabama. The ordered that King could not hold protests in Birmingham. ( Kings Letter From Birmingham Jail 1 ). Even know they say that freedom means you have the right to do or express anything you want. I believe its taking to an extent, you cant go around doing anything and saying anything. You must be considerable towards other and there feelings towards things. For example racial surling. You should not be able to go around discriminating people for the way they look or what they believe in. Words are powerful and should be chosen wisely. You should think before you act or speak in any situation. I think that having that type of freedom of speech to say anything as you please would be a problem to society, because your words are not just words. Words are something powerful and have meaning behind them. A simple thought said can change the whole world, and if people have the right and the time to discriminate and beat down a person because of their believes or race the world would be complete chaos and a disgrace to society. Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.(Yehuda Berg) Were supposed to stand as one, as a nation, as a unit, as a team, and if we are beating down the ones were supposed to stand with then there wont be an us. Yes we are strong individually but together we are much more powerful. And those usage of words and the way you act is going to determine where we stand as a nation. We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong . The amount of work is the same. (Carlos Castenada )
